When to search by address or map pin

Updated October 2026

Use a chosen meeting point when your current location is not where the meal will happen.

Current location is not always the right starting point

Many restaurant searches happen before people arrive. You may be planning dinner near a hotel, a station, an office, a concert venue, or a friend's neighborhood. In those cases, your phone's current position is useful only if you are already there.

Searching by address or map pin lets you plan around the place where the meal should happen. That makes the results more relevant and avoids choosing somewhere convenient for the wrong location.

Use an address for known destinations

Address search works best when you know the exact place: a hotel name, street address, office building, museum, or station. Enter the address, choose the travel mode, and set the maximum travel time from that spot.

This is especially useful for visitors. Instead of browsing a whole city, you can focus on restaurants that are practical from the place you will actually be standing.

Use a pin for flexible meeting areas

A map pin is better when the meeting point is approximate. For example, you might want food near the middle of a park, near a riverfront, or between two transit stops. Pinning the map gives you a practical center without needing a formal address.

For groups, a pin can also represent a compromise area. Drop it near the neighborhood that works for everyone, then compare what is reachable within the travel time people agreed on.
